Organisation Description

ROC van Amsterdam – Flevoland (ROCvAF) is one of the largest Regional Education Centres in the Netherlands and provides secondary vocational education in twelve modern MBO colleges in Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Hoofddorp and Hilversum, Almere and Lelystad. Each MBO college offers its own wide selection of courses and has several specialisations. In total, ROCvAF offers over 400 secondary vocational education programs. Our programmes are given at EQF levels 1 – 5 and as Vocational Training Track (BOL, full-time) and / or as Vocational Guidance Track (BBL, part-time) as well as associate degrees. ROCvA also provides secondary education and adult education. The secondary education of Amsterdam (VOvA) has ten schools. Adult education consists of the Joke Smit College (vmbo-tl, havo, vwo) and Education (courses and training). ROC van Amsterdam – Flevoland has around 40,000 students and about 3000 teaching staff with over 100 different nationalities. Over 50% of the students have a non-Dutch background.

Education at the MBO colleges is organized on a small scale, as a student you mainly deal with the department that your course is part of. ROCvAF is characterized by high quality education with a lot of attention for the individual student. Our organisation aims to be a ‘Podium for Talent’ (‘Stage for Talent’); a bridge between the potential workforce (all our students) and the demands of the labour market. Through offering high quality education ROCvAF aims to become one of the top five educational institutes within MBO/VET.

To meet ROC van Amsterdam’s mission in professionalism and excellence, staff and students need to be prepared to work in an international environment. We have a strong focus on international mobilities and partnerships with schools and organisations abroad. Also, we have a strong community of College International Representatives, a Steering Committee Internationalisation, a Platform Internationalisation consisting of directors of each college and a full-operating International Office to enhance internationalisation within the organisation.

ROC van Amsterdam – Flevoland works closely together with its partners to create an international dimension in vocational education and create a network for its international bilingual qualifications for exchanging best practices in VET. Together with our partners we continuously work on the quality and transparency of internationalisation through sharing best practices in European VET. ROC van Amsterdam – Flevoland works together with National Partners such as the MBO Raad (Council of Secondary Vocational Education), Nuffic (the Dutch organisation for internationalisation in education), IVS Alliance, The Dutch Alliance and Hogeschool van Amsterdam (Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences). Internationally we are a member of the Network of Networks organisation and are working together with numerous partner colleges in Finland, Spain, and the UK. For offering further study possibilities we built partnerships with universities abroad, like for example the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, the Manchester Metropolitan University, or the EAIE- European Association for International Education. ROC van Amsterdam – Flevoland actively participates in the Erasmus+ programme and holds an Erasmus+ accreditation.
